Big bump in hotel transactions here to stay?

Last year, hotel sales amounted to $14 billion in 2011 nationwide. And California was a shining star in that recovery, with hotel sales rising 37 percent to $3.5 billion last year, compared with $1.3 billion in 2010.

Perched high on Nob Hill, the Huntington Hotel has long been a landmark.


Built in 1922 as luxury apartments, it was converted into a hotel after World War II, and its restaurant, The Big Four, pays tribute to 19th Century railroad barons whose mansions used to adorn the area.
