Underarm Bandit Gets Life Despite Juror's Intercession
On first blush, Albert Tolliver would appear to be another poster child for three-strikes law reform. Tolliver on Tuesday was sentenced in Los Angeles Superior Court to 25 years to life in state prison for shoplifting 12 sticks of deodorant from a grocery store in May. People v. Tolliver , BA185491. Such a nonviolent offense, Deputy Public Defender Armando Rodriguez argued, is hardly the kind of serious crime the strikes law was designed to target.
