Hate Crimes Have Shown Slight Drop

California law enforcement authorities reported 1,750 hate crimes last year, State Attorney General Bill Lockyer said Monday. The numbers represent a slight drop from 1997, when authorities reported 1,831 hate-motivated incidents, and a continuing drop from 1996, when authorities reported 2,054 hate crimes.
