Court Draws a Firm Line Over Client Conflicts

SAN FRANCISCO - Sticking to California's strict rule of automatic disqualification in conflict-of-interest situations, the California Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that a law firm must be ousted from a civil case when a lawyer who is "of counsel" to the firm unwittingly advises an opposing party.
