Sex-Abuse Trial Opens; Church Faces Punitive Damages

HAYWARD - The Oakland Diocese knew that one of its priests was a serial child molester, but church officials shuffled him from parish to parish and continued to expose altar boys to his advances, a lawyer for two victims said during opening statements in a civil trial Monday.
