At the beginning of a complicated four-month trial concerning hydro-geological principles and "maximum contaminant levels" of chemicals in drinking water, attorneys for Shell Oil Co. decided to keep it simple for the jury.


During opening statements and throughout the trial, Shell's lawyers gave jurors a scorecard to keep track of six principles they intended to prove during the case.
