Ronald Brown New LA Public Defender

Ronald L. Brown is the first black to lead the Los Angeles County public defender's office.

Ronald L. Brown became the Los Angeles County public defender on Tuesday after supervisors unanimously appointed him to lead the nation's oldest criminal defense agency for the indigent.


Brown, 56, a graduate of USC and the UCLA law school, will make $270,000 a year. He replaces retired Public Defender Michael P. Judge.
