Liberty at Risk

Benjamin Franklin once observed, "They that would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." The terrorist strikes at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were attacks on, among other things, our liberty. The reason that they will not succeed is that our freedom is not something alien violence can vanquish, but rather something only we can surrender.
