'Larger-Than-Life' Judge Rode Motorcycles, Had Black Belt in Karate

Santa Clara Superior Court Judge Robert L. "Bud" Ambrose, a 16-year bench veteran who rode motorcycles and had a black belt in karate, died Friday of complications from cancer. He was 61.

      Santa Clara Superior Court Judge Robert L. "Bud" Ambrose, a 16-year bench veteran who rode motorcycles and had a black belt in karate, died Friday of complications from cancer. He was 61.
      His colleague, Judge Jerome Brock, called Ambrose "a cop's judge" who had been a sheriff's deputy in west Texas and a police officer in Richmond. ...
