Liu on the lookout for clerks
State Supreme Court Justice Goodwin Liu's move to hire at least two clerks marks a potential shift at the court, which for the past 30 years has mostly relied on permanent staff attorneys.

SAN FRANCISCO - When state Supreme Court Justice Goodwin Liu sent an email to several judges and law school deans looking for recent graduates who might want to clerk for him, the response was overwhelming.
Within 72 hours he had 200 applicants. A few weeks later, he now has more than 300 young attorneys vying to serve between 18 and 24 months on his staff.
