A month into realignment's rollout, Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Secretary Matthew Cate talks about how it's going so far.

SACRAMENTO - The job of California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Secretary Matthew Cate just got even busier. He is spearheading Gov. Jerry Brown's plan to transfer as many as 40,000 state prisoners into the county jail and probation system. His agency also has issued 26,000 layoff warning notices in response to budget cuts and the prisoner transfers.
