Initiative seeks to ban union dues from campaigns

The November 2012 election is still a year away, but unions are already gearing up to fight a ballot initiative that threatens to undermine their formidable political clout in the state.

SACRAMENTO - The November 2012 election is still a year away, but unions are already gearing up to fight a ballot initiative that threatens to undermine their formidable political clout in the state.


Called the Stop Special Interest Money Now Act by supporters, the proposed initiative seeks to prohibit unions from using member dues for political purposes except with written permission.
