DOJ says it collected $4.7 billion in 2016 from fraud and false claims cases

The Department of Justice said it collected more than $31 billion during the past four years via settlements and judgments in civil cases under the False Claims Act,

The Department of Justice announced Thursday it had collected $4.7 billion in fiscal 2016 judgments and settlements from people who made fraudulent or false claims against federal agencies.

Much of the success was due to whistleblowers, the department said, adding it was the third highest annual recovery in 30 years.
