Circuit Strikes AT&T's Consumer Contracts

SAN FRANCISCO - A federal appeals panel handed a landmark arbitration victory to seven million California consumers Tuesday, declaring AT&T's 2000 customer contracts to be "unconscionable" and illegal because they mandate secret arbitration, bar class actions and limit AT&T's potential damages for willful misconduct, in violation of consumer protection laws.
