Orange County Agrees to Pay $600,000 in Killing of Inmate

SANTA ANA - Orange County has settled a lawsuit growing out of the first killing in a county jail in 20 years. Left unexplained by the $600,000 deal is how jail guards managed to ignore a mob of inmates beating another inmate to death for 20 minutes and whether the guards themselves instigated the violence.
