Municipal lawyers eye Stockton bankruptcy for clues

The bankruptcy is a trial by fire for AB 506, which requires lengthy negotiations before cities may pursue protection through bankruptcy proceedings. And so far the verdict on how well the legislation works is mixed.

With the city of Stockton set to file for Chapter 9 bankruptcy protection Friday, the plight of the Central Valley city has captured attention for one reason besides it being the largest municipal bankruptcy in the nation.
