SLAPP Suit Turns Personal After Brother's Death

In a case that could have reverberations throughout the state, the California Supreme Court case today hears claims a Los Gatos attorney defamed a wood screw manufacturer in ads the lawyer ran seeking class-action plaintiffs.

Los Gatos attorney Pierce Gore placed what he thought were innocuous newspaper ads seeking plaintiffs for a possible class action against wood screw manufacturers. Four years later, after one of the manufacturers sued him and his brother for defamation, Gore has lost his brother to suicide and could lose his home to foreclosure.
