WASHINGTON - Solicitor General Elena Kagan edged closer to a lifetime appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court Tuesday when the Senate Judiciary Committee approved her nomination.
Just one Republican, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, voiced support for Kagan as the committee voted 13-6 to move her nomination forward. It'll now go to a debate and vote on the Senate floor.
