Defender remembered for dedication to underprivileged

Carl C. Holmes, a former Orange County public defender who spent more than 30 years in the office and was known for his passionate representation of defendants, died Friday. He was 72.

Former Orange County Public Defender Carl C. Holmes, who spent more than 30 years in the office and was known for his passionate representation of the underprivileged, died Friday from complications with Alzheimer's disease. He was 72.


Friends and family said Holmes was industrious and dedicated to his work. He understood that some people were simply dealt a bad hand in life.
