Justice Joyce Kennard stepping down from state Supreme Court [OLD]
Justice Joyce L. Kennard, the longest-serving member on the state Supreme Court, known for her fierce independent streak that defied ideological classification, will step down from the court effective April 5.

Justice Joyce L. Kennard, the longest serving member on the state Supreme Court, known for her fierce independent streak that defied ideological classification, will step down from the court effective April 5.
Kennard faxed a letter to Gov. Jerry Brown Tuesday announcing her retirement. In the letter, obtained by the Daily Journal, she makes no mention of the reasons for her decision.
