Labor commissioner 'modifies' wage citations against Chinese manufacturer

The citations against a Los Angeles subsidiary of Chinese battery maker BYD came after activists complained the company was paying foreign workers below minimum wage.

Labor Commissioner Julie A. Su announced Tuesday she had "modified" the citation against electric bus manufacturer BYD Motors Inc., a Los Angeles-based subsidiary of a Chinese company known for making electric cars and batteries.


The citation unleashed a controversy in November, with activists complaining the company was paying foreign workers below minimum wage.
