Bill addresses private Proposition 65 enforcement
Assembly Bill 1583 provides an effective enforcement mechanism for the California Safe Drinking Water Toxic Enforcement Act, and ought to be signed by the governor.

Proposition 65, the California Safe Drinking Water Toxic Enforcement Act, was passed by the voters in 1986 via the state ballot initiative process. Prop. 65 requires the governor to publish a list of chemicals that are known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. The 1986 list included 30 chemicals. Today, over 900 chemicals have been listed.
