Trump University: What's in a name?

Now that the Trump University litigation has settled, some ask why California does not prohibit the use of "college" or "university" for a business offering educational services.

Surprisingly, California does. Enacted in 1995, California Education Code Section 94050 prohibits entities from the using "college" or "university" unless authorized to operate as a private educational institution. Any person violating the statute is guilty of a misdemeanor.
