A Meeting of the Minds

Intellectual property lawyers gathered at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Tuesday for USC Gould School of Law’s annual IP Institute conference on patent, trademark and copyright law. Dozens of distinguished speakers conducted workshops at the all-day event. The keynote speech was delivered by David Kappos, under secretary of commerce for intellectual property and director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He hailed the U.S. Senate’s passage of a patent reform bill that will be considered by the U.S. House of Representatives. Wayne Barsky, a partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, moderated a panel on the year’s top IP developments that included a review by David Nimmer, a professor at UCLA School of Law who also serves as of counsel at Irell & Manella.
