Water Board Orders Oil Clean Up

State water authorities have ordered Shell Oil. Co. to undertake a massive cleanup of Carson's Carousel neighborhood, a quiet enclave of single-family homes that once housed a crude oil storage facility.

State water authorities ordered Shell Oil. Co. to undertake a massive cleanup of Carson's Carousel neighborhood, a quiet enclave of single-family homes that once housed a crude-oil storage facility.


The California Regional Water Quality Control Board instructed Shell to clean up 10 feet of contaminated soil under the 44-acre neighborhood, including beneath homes and paved surfaces.
