New workers' compensation law brings practice changes
When workers' compensation reforms take effect in January, lawyers won't be going to court anymore over treatment disputes, but a scaling back of mental health coverage to only "catastrophic" injuries may lead to lawsuits.

Labor and employment attorneys say the reforms to workers' compensation that Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law last week will take them to court more frequently for some disputes and not at all for others.
The law, which begins to take effect Jan. 1 and will be fully in force by July, aims to increase permanent disability payouts without hiking premiums for employers.
