Increase in court fee waivers possible as sluggish economy continues

More plaintiffs' attorneys in smaller-value cases are pushing state courts to grant fee waivers for their clients. Lawyers say their clients, some of whom are struggling financially, simply can't afford court fees for filings or juries.

As the sluggish economy continues to plod along and with state courts facing severe budget shortfalls, some plaintiffs' attorneys say they are exploring having their clients ask the courts to waive fees - money the courts help use to fund themselves.
