Atheist nonprofit sues over cross in city park

A cross displayed in a Santa Clara park is the subject of a federal lawsuit filed last week accusing the city of not properly separating church and state.

A cross displayed in a Santa Clara park is the subject of a federal lawsuit filed last week accusing the city of not properly separating church and state.

The lawsuit is brought by Wisconsin-based nonprofit Freedom From Religion Foundation Inc., which accuses the city of Santa Clara of ignoring constitutional laws that ban displaying a cross in Memorial Cross Park.
