Four Firms Pay Bonuses Despite Downturn

SAN FRANCISCO - Four large Northern California law firms - Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe, Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison and Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich - will pay their associates substantial bonuses this year, with some busy first-year associates earning $175,000 in salary and bonuses in 2001.
