IRVINE'S INTERSIL BUYS CIRCUIT MAKER ELANTEC
Intersil Corp. will acquire Elantec Semiconductor Inc. in a $1.4 billion stock and cash deal that was announced March 11. Irvine's Intersil makes and sells wireless network chipsets, which perform related functions such as running the modem and the hard drive, and other circuits. Its customers include Compaq Computer Corp., Sony Corp. and Nokia Corp.
