Americans Under Scuitiny

The U.S. Act to Provide Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism, or PATRIOT Act, the Bush Administration's new anti-terrorism legislation, is now law. It was passed by Congress in near record time, after only one public hearing and little debate. Along the way, the House leadership torpedoed a more carefully crafted bill that had been unanimously approved by the House Judiciary Committee.
