Hundreds Trapped in Corporate Killing Zone

It's about time. For years, corporations have hidden their embarrassing secrets behind the shield of sealed settlements in lawsuits. But recently, the Judicial Council approved new rules making it much tougher to hide the public record. Starting Jan. 1, parties to civil lawsuits will have to show a compelling reason why settlements must be sealed. The fact that both parties agree to seal the public record will no longer be enough.
