San Diego Gas & Electric's general counsel to retire

W. Davis Smith's tenure was marked by a rapidly evolving energy industry as well as challenges to some of the company's bigger development projects and litigation spawned by local wildfires.

The general counsel of San Diego Gas & Electric Co., W. Davis Smith, plans to retire this fall after 12 years at the helm of the legal division.


His successor, who's slated to start in September, has yet to be announced. The utility is a subsidiary of Sempra Energy.
