Judge allows suit over digital 'Hobbit,' 'Lord of the Rings' merchandise

A judge ruled that a dispute between the J.R.R. Tolkien estate and Warner Bros. Digital Distribution Inc. over the rights to digital merchandise featuring characters and places from "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" will continue.

A district court ruled Thursday that a dispute between the J.R.R. Tolkien estate and Warner Bros. Digital Distribution Inc. over the rights to digital merchandise featuring characters and places from "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" will continue, denying an anti-SLAPP motion and motion to dismiss.
