Brown vetoes efforts to add transparency to judicial branch decisionmaking

Gov. Jerry Brown signed budget legislation Thursday but excised a portion of the budget legislation that would have required judicial branch leadership to make their meetings far more transparent.

Gov. Jerry Brown signed budget legislation Thursday allotting $63 million in new funding for courts and transferring over $200 million from court construction funds to pay for court operations. But he also excised a portion of the budget legislation that would have required judicial branch leadership to make their meetings far more transparent, citing the cost to the branch.
