Brown signs law to inject more information into bail process

The governor signed a bill allowing bench officers to consider a detailed risk assessment report when setting or denying bail for those charged with nonfelony crimes.

Gov. Jerry Brown on Monday signed a bill into law allowing bench officers to consider a detailed risk assessment report when setting or denying bail for those charged with nonfelony crimes.

Previously, bench officers used the report to determine whether or not those charged with lesser offenses could be released on their own recognizance.
