Los Angeles Superior Court to cut 500 jobs, including 177 layoffs Friday
The Los Angeles County Superior Court announced 177 layoffs and the elimination of hundreds of vacant positions to help close an $86 million budget shortfall, and comes amidst a fight in Sacramento for money to helping ailing courts.

Los Angeles County Superior Court will cut 511 jobs on Friday to help meet an $85 million budget shortfall, an action that includes laying off 177 workers and eliminating a few hundred unfilled jobs, court officials said Wednesday.
In addition, 139 workers will be demoted or have their pay cut, and 223 others will be transferred to new work locations to help cut costs.
