Film Director Polanski, Still in Absentia, Loses Bid to Have Sex Case Dismissed

Superior Court Judge Peter Espinoza stayed his decision until May 7, to give Roman Polanski a chance to appear in person. Polanski has been on the lam for 30 years.

LOS ANGELES - A Los Angeles judge Tuesday denied a request by Roman Polanski's lawyers to toss out the film director's 1977 child sex case, based on allegations of judicial and prosecutorial misconduct.

But Superior Court Judge Peter Espinoza stayed his decision until another hearing set for May 7, at which time he said the 75-year-old Polanski would have to appear in person if he wants to argue his cas...
