S.F. Sees First Federal Capital Trials in Decades

Michael Thorman and Michael Satris are defending alleged gang member Emile Fort on murder charges. Fort and another man are going on trial in separate cases this month — the first defendants in the Northern District to face the federal death penalty since it was reinstated in 1988.

SAN FRANCICSO - One at a time, the potential jurors took a seat in the jury box of U.S. District Judge Maxine M. Chesney's San Francisco federal courtroom last week.

Each had already heard that the man they might share a courtroom with for three months is charged with killing three people and participating in a narcotics conspiracy as part of a gang called the "Page Street Mob."
