A senior prosecutor in Attorney General Kamala D. Harris' office has been promoted to chief of the criminal division, the office announced Wednesday. Gerald A. "Jerry" Engler, 56, replaces Dane R. Gillette, who retired earlier this year. Engler has for the last 11 years been senior assistant attorney general for the appeals, writs and trials section.
