Lawyer Asks Jury for Nearly $30 Million in Clergy Sex Abuse Case
SAN FRANCISCO - The Oakland Diocese should pay nearly $30 million in damages because, as part of a systematic cover-up, it protected a pedophile priest who abused two altar boys in the 1980s, the victims' lawyer said at the close of a clergy abuse trial Tuesday.
