A U.S. district judge in Miami ruled Tuesday that a $97 million Nicaraguan judgment against Dole Food Co. and four other multinational fruit and chemical companies would not be recognized in the United States, bringing an end to one of several pending cases in the U.S. and abroad arising from claims that a banned pesticide Dole used on banana plantations led to sterility in male workers.
