Global M&A activity drops in first quarter as U.S. activity rises

Despite global M&A decline in the first quarter, U.S.-based M&A shot up by 33.6 percent in terms of deal value compared to the same period last year.

Global mergers and acquisitions activity by value dropped in the first quarter from the same period a year earlier, falling from $452.3 billion to $405.9 billion, according to a recent report.


Despite the global decline, U.S.-based M&A shot up more than 30 percent by value, according to data released last week by data intelligence service Mergermarket.
