Weil Gotshal: CHIP MAKER INTEL LAYS OUT $784 MILLION FOR XIRCOM

Intel Corp. has agreed to acquire Xircom Inc. in a deal valued at $748 million. Santa Clara's Intel Corp. is the world's largest maker of microprocessors, which include both its Pentium and Celeron models. The company sells its products not only to makers of IBM-compatible personal computers, such as Compaq Computer Corp. and Dell Computer Corp., but also to the communications, industrial equipment and military markets.
