Retired Judge Sherman W. Smith Jr. dead at 72

Smith spent 20 years as on the LA municipal and superior courts, then 15 as a JAMS neutral.

Sherman W. Smith, Jr., a retired superior court judge and JAMS mediator, died on Sept. 4 in his Los Angeles home after a long illness, according to his brother, Roger. Smith was 72.

After 20 years on the Los Angeles County municipal and superior courts, Smith retired in 1999 and affiliated as a JAMS neutral from 2000 until 2015, handling many elder abuse cases.
