Governor vetoes bill to limit juror identification in criminal cases

Gov. Jerry Brown has vetoed a bill that would have required jurors in criminal trials be identified only by partial name or juror ID number.

SACRAMENTO — Gov. Jerry Brown has vetoed a bill that would have required jurors in criminal trials be identified only by partial name or juror ID number.

Sponsors said AB 1766 was needed to protect jurors' privacy during voir dire.

In his veto message, Brown said "adequate remedies" already exist for courts to protect juror identities on a "case by case basis."
