Citing risk to salmon, Indian tribes, Sacramento federal judge permits government to release water from behind the Lewiston dam

The Westlands Water District and the San Luis & Delta-Mendota Water Authority sued the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation last week after the agency announced it would start releasing water to improve conditions in the river.

Citing the risk of a catastrophic hit on salmon in the Klamath River, a Sacramento federal judge on Wednesday allowed the federal government to release water from behind the Lewiston dam over the objections of agricultural interests in the Central Valley.
