Northern District U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag's deputy favored to get her job

The senior prosecutor likely to fill Melinda Haag's post as interim U.S. attorney is Brian J. Stretch, currently her top deputy.

SAN FRANCISCO - The senior prosecutor likely to fill Melinda Haag's post as interim
U.S. attorney is Brian J. Stretch, currently her top deputy.


Haag announced her resignation Wednesday, effective Sept. 1. Aides would not confirm
that Stretch will get the interim job, but four sources called it almost certain.
