Legislative panel moves State Bar fee bill forward but demands changes, transparency

The bill approved by the Assembly Judiciary Committee will leave most lawyers' license fees at $390. But the bar will have to go through another audit and justify its spending. Legislators predicted more reforms next year.

Hinting that the Legislature may force State Bar dues down in the future, a legislative
committee Tuesday demanded the bar carefully analyze its costs and spending to make
sure lawyers' annual license fees are kept reasonable.
