Cooley Godward: CHIP MAKERS WILL COMBINE IN $878 MILLION AGREEMENT

LSI Logic Corp. has agreed to buy C-Cube Microsystems Inc. for $878 million in stock. Milpitas' LSI Logic designs and makes standard chips, as well as application-specific integrated circuits. It also develops system-on-a-chip products that combine the microprocessor, logic and memory functions of an electronic system onto a single chip. Sun Microsystems Inc. is the company's largest customer.
